9 Awesome Things We Learned From "Nine Legends"

4. British Bulldog Blew A Big Spot For Bret Hart At SummerSlam '92

Bret Hart has gained something of a reputation for being a little negative in his shoot interviews. He's certainly never shied away from dishing dirt on fellow wrestlers, like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Flair, Hogan, and it goes double for Vince McMahon. However, this was a more sedate and sentimental Hart, reminding wrestlers to never forget that they used to be fans & recounting tales of meeting, in adulthood, the child he gave his sunglasses to at SummerSlam '92. Speaking of the infamous Wembley PPV, Hart shared a story of the late, great British Bulldog. As most fans will know, at SS in 1992, Hart and the Bulldog put on one of the best, if not the best, SummerSlam matches of all time for the Intercontinental Championship, with the match going on last, after the WWF title bout! Before the match, Hart laid the plan out: after I drop the strap to the you (which Bret volunteered to do), after you win, hold your hand out to me and look me in the eyes, right in the eyes. I'll refuse to shake for a while, but you maintain eye contact with me, just with me, build the heat, then we'll blow it off with a handshake and hug. Simple plan, but the Bulldog forgot, looking out at the crowd for minutes on end, leaving Hart standing in the ring looking like a tit. Eventually Bret gave up on the spot, citing it as a cautionary tale: never forget the little details.
