9 Awful Proposed WWE Gimmicks That Thankfully Never Made It To TV
9. Katie Lee And Paul Burchill As Incestuous Siblings
While WWE may have a lot of promising British talent in the likes of Paige, Bad News Barrett and Neville, it is worth remembering that grapplers from the UK haven't always gotten a good deal in the company. Besides the evergreen William Regal, no Brit has managed to truly establish themselves. Take Katie Lea and Paul Burchill, for example. WWE pursued the duo for years and, after all of the visa issues and whatnot were sorted, they were going to be debuted with big plans. Paul Burchill's 2006 run as a Captain Jack Sparrow wannabe came to an abrupt end when Vince decided the gimmick wasn't working. Vince had plans for the underrated Burchill. Very, very weird plans. He had long wanted to do an incest-based angle/gimmick, as evidenced from Stephanie McMahon's claims on the 2006 McMahon DVD that Vince had wanted to be revealed as the father of Stephanie's baby. That was, thankfully, vetoed by a grossed-out Steph. Paul and his 'sister' Katie Lea Burchill debuted on Raw in the spring of 2008. It was intended that they would be revealed as having an incestuous relationship when, two weeks later, the company switched to the PG rating and the gimmick was mercifully dropped.
