9 Ballsiest WWE Promos Ever
5. Eddie Guerrero And Domestic Abuse
In another classic example of WWE failing to tackle a serious issue with any delicacy whatsoever, it was decided in 2005 that in order to elevate the feud between Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, there would be a custody battle over a little boy named Dominick (Rey's real-life son). Both men would claim to be his father. Oh, and it would also be strongly suggested that Eddie Guerrero was a wife-beater.
In the middle of Eddie's promo, which promised to reveal a juicy secret about Rey's family, Vickie Guerrero walked out to the ramp with their two children in tow. 'Latino Heat' didn't take it too well, and proceeded to berate his wife with some seriously sinister undertones to his words. It looked for all the world like the unsettling precursor of domestic violence. Keep in mind that this was the first time we'd been properly introduced to Eddie's family, and it is initially played as something of an intervention (Vickie is worried about her husband's activities outside of their relationship) that basically boils over into the first act of a made-for-TV movie about spousal abuse.
Most gut-churning is how the broadcast cuts to commercial as Eddie is "lovingly" manhandling his wife while whispering things that are most definitely not sweet nothings. And this wasn't just Eddie Guerrero going along with an angle; he actually came up with the idea! Painting yourself as the bad guy in a feud is one thing, but positioning yourself as this kind of bad guy is something else entirely. Eddie Guerrero had some serious cojones, folks.
