9 Ballsiest WWE Promos Ever

9. The Nation Calls WWE Racist

It's not like WWE has ever been all that successful when it comes to addressing social issues in an even semi-serious fashion. Vince McMahon is not known for his tact, nor is his company the most nuanced. The week before this promo, the Nation's locker room had been vandalized with such colorful graffiti as "Uncle Tom", "Go Home", and perhaps most blatant among the bunch, the letters "KFC" with a big X through it (because it's not really racism against black people unless you explicitly mention fried chicken).

But the back-and-forth between Faarooq and Vince shined a bright light on just how delusional and defensive the company was when it came to allegations about racism within the ranks. In this promo, The Nation are supposed to be the villains. You can tell that from how then-face Vince dismisses their arguments and how the crowd reacts to those same claims (with a generous amount of booing and visible outrage on many of their faces). This was a precarious minefield for the promotion to navigate, and they decided instead to throw some bodies around and watch the explosions.

Never mind that it was all a "prank" pulled by D-Generation X; the event begged people to go digging through the vaults to uncover the many, many times the WWE had, in fact, been blatantly racist. Consider this a fine example of how being ballsy does not always equal success.
