Dave Meltzer calls it the "best wrestling in North America" - and the grand overlord of wrestling journalism may well be right.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG) is as fantastic a wrestling promotion as you are going to get, a California-based company which puts on shows where the wrestling comes first, second, third and fourth. Sure, there are stories too - but it really is all about what happens in between the ropes.

The promotion was established way back in 2003 by a group of Southern Californian wrestlers including Joey Ryan and Super Dragon, and has grown over the subsequent fourteen years to become one of the top independent promotions in the world. The annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament gains most of the plaudits, but the company promotes multiple must-see shows every year.

Numerous men have starred in PWG before going on to become staples in WWE, although not all held championship gold before doing so. Brian Kendrick, CM Punk, Samoa Joe, TJ Perkins and a whole lot more fall under that umbrella, and a number of former (and current) champions in the company have performed in WWE - men like Low Ki, Zack Sabre Jr. and Paul London.

Here are nine current WWE stars who have held gold in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla...

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
