9 Lessons AEW Should Learn From Revolution 2021
6. Angles Should Be Angles. Not Matches
There was a lot going on with this pay-per-view, a mass of gimmick matches and surprises that left a divisive taste in the collective gobs of the fans. The show would have been better for trimming down the card and adding a couple of backstage angles to keep things rolling. In short, this match shouldn't have been anywhere near the card.
All four men are supremely talented, but the tag match between Best Friends (Cassidy/Taylor version) and Miro & Kip stuck out like a sore thumb. The feud between has been middling, to say the least, a curious and clumsy beef that seems to have knocked Miro down a notch and arguably done the same for Orange Cassidy. If the feud had to have a match on the show, would a singles bout between Miro and Cassidy not have made more sense?
As it was, the match was more of an angle, as the Bulgarian Brute beat up the chums backstage and made easy work of Chuck in the ring. It didn't need to be a match at all, and the same outcome would have been achieved if the backstage beatdown was the beginning and end of it. You can feature a wide range of talent without shoehorning matches onto the card.
