9 Old-Timers That Won Wrestling Gold (And Shouldn't Have)

1. Vince McMahon (WWE Championship, 54)

It was bad when Vince McMahon won the ECW title. Real bad. But it doesn't hold a candle to the time he won the WWE Championship -- the most prized piece of gold in all of professional wrestling -- from Triple H in 1999.

In fact, there's not another moment in the history of the WWE that proves just how out of control Vince McMahon's megalomania is. And this is a man who once challenged God to a match, started his own religion (and called it McMahonism), and forced top tier wrestlers to literally kiss his backside on television.

And there's just no reason that he should have ever won it, regardless of the move turning him into a babyface. Sure, it helped kick off a pretty decent feud with Triple H and moved things along with Stone Cold, but putting the WWE Championship on the CEO of the company tarnished the belt's legacy. Hell, even Shane McMahon would have been a better option than Vinnie Mac.

To make matters worse, Vince held the title for just six days before vacating the belt through some storyline contract shenanigans. Which means that, officially, Vincent Kennedy McMahon is the only undefeated WWE Champion in the company's history. If that didn't make you throw up in your mouth just a little bit, there's something very, very wrong with you.
