9 Reasons Steve Austin Was Better In WWE Than Hulk Hogan

7. He Didn't Take Himself Too Seriously

Sure, the character of Stone Cold Steve Austin was a badass, take-no-prisoners, leave-no-ass-unkicked type of guy, but that doesn't mean the performer behind the persona thought of himself as untouchable. He wasn't planning out every move with his overall legacy in mind. The guy was an entertainer who was just trying to be entertaining.

Hulk Hogan, on the other hand, was more focused on achieving a legacy more perfect than Peyton Manning, constantly doing anything he could to cement Hulkamania as a sacrosanct brand. Part of that was his refusal to work with certain performers or engage in certain storylines - which we'll get to in greater detail later - but it was also about his reluctance to deviate, even slightly, from the character's near-infallibility.

This man wasn't just an entertainer, he was a God. He wasn't just a good guy, he was the best guy. He wasn't just the face of the WWE, he was the face of America.

Stone Cold was also the face of the WWE, but he never seemed to let that get in the way of doing what was best for business. If that meant turning heel at the height of his popularity, aligning himself with a wildly unpopular faction, putting on a cowboy hat and playing a purposefully shoddy rendition of "Kumbaya", then so be it.
