You could make an argument for Hogan vs. Andre or Hogan vs. Savage as the greatest of all time. Hell, you could do the same for Austin vs. The Rock. But those arguments would be invalid, because there has never been a feud that was as wholly entertaining and satisfying as Stone Cold vs. Vince McMahon.

As much as Stone Cold deserves the credit he gets for revitalising the industry and saving WWE from the brink of destruction, it should be noted that the character of Stone Cold as we know him today simply would not have existed were it not for Vince McMahon. Because it was McMahon who provided the catalyst for Austin's rebellion and it was McMahon who participated alongside the Rattlesnake in roughly 90 percent of his most iconic moments.

Everybody in the world wanted to see Austin beat the living hell out of his boss. It was a weekly attraction that never failed to delight.

They may have stumbled into it, but their feud proved to be the centrepiece of the Attitude Era, and remains the most important WWE rivalry of all-time.
