9 Reasons WWE Draft 2016 Was A Colossal Failure

2. Not Differentiating The Brands

During one of the brief times that SmackDown and Raw both earned equal amounts of success was during Paul Heyman's run as the booker of the blue brand, and he did so by going out of his way to set the look, feel and style of the two shows apart.

SmackDown became known as the home of the hot young upstarts and hungry rookies with a mixture of the best veteran workers in the business, going out each and every week and busting their *sses to put on the best show possible. The "SmackDown Six" had the entire wrestling world captivated and there was a real danger of the WWE's flagship show being superceded.

With the way the 2016 draft played out, it doesn't appear that there will be any real difference between the two shows, outside of the cruiserweights being exclusive to Raw, a fact that wasn't emphasized in any way on the draft special.

Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon should have done more to set their brand apart from Raw rather that just putting together a roster that attempts to be a balanced version of the rival show's.

Anything to differentiate the two is a positive, whether it be making one the more serious, workrate-heavy show while the other focuses more on sports entertainment or what have you. There just needs to be noticeable differences.
