9 Things I Learned From Watching WCW Greed

4. WCW Was Finally Punishing Old Guys

In a match for the WCW World Tag Team Championships, champions Sean O'Haire and Chuck Palumbo defended their straps against the Magnificent Seven duo of Bagwell and Luger. Lex in particular looked old and washed up here, and the match itself lasts less than a minute. Palumbo hits both men with superkicks, O'Haire hits both men with Seanton bombs, and they even get a double pin.

The reason for this quick squash was that Lex Luger had been whinin' and moanin' backstage about having to put over the young talent, so WCW did the right thing and made an example of him, making the young stallions look super strong in the process.

So WCW finally started pushing young talent over washed-up guys, although by this point it was akin to putting on your lifejacket as the ocean floor approaches.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
