The conversation moves on to Roman Reigns and in particular the role of The Authority in World Wrestling Entertainment today.

Cornette mentions that WWE was the first real wrestling promotion that booked itself to be the antagonist, that put itself in the position of heel in order to create babyface stars. This was almost 20 years ago now, and the idea has grown a little stale.

The reason it worked so well two decades ago wasn't just because it was unique, but also because of Vince McMahon. Vince had always wanted to be a performer, but had waited for the stars to align and for the right moment. That moment came, and Vince more than shone in it.

Vince McMahon was a once-in-a-lifetime performer, an individual who was made to be a wrestling heel. His like will not be seen again, and the attempt of wrestling promotions to replicate his success in that character will fail until his like comes again.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
