7. First World Heavyweight Championship Run

Not only was Punk now competing on the flagship show, but he also found himself in possession of the coveted Money in the Bank briefcase. That wouldn’t be the case for long, however, as he cashed in his title opportunity just seven days after he was Drafted to Raw, preying on the vulnerable champion Edge to win his first Word Heavyweight Championship.

Despite having the belt around his waist, Punk was never quite treated like a World Heavyweight Champion. A forgettable run was curtailed in fairly miserable fashion, as Punk would lose the belt in a match that he didn’t even participate in. A backstage mugging from Randy Orton and his cronies ruled Punk out of Unforgiven 2008’s Championship Scramble match, and yet the contest went ahead without him, with Chris Jericho taking his place and eventually leaving with the belt in tow.

This prompted a slight relegation down the card, first in the form of a World Tag Team title run with Kofi Kingston, before a stint as Intercontinental Champion.

It wasn’t long before he bounced back and the cream rose to the top once more and, at WrestleMania XXV, he won his second Money in the Bank briefcase, which he’d once again cash-in to later become a two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
