9 Times Injuries Actually Helped A Wrestler's Career

8. John Cena

Let's face it, any time away from the spotlight for John Cena is probably a good thing. That's not a knock against the guy as a performer, but it's a well-known fact that Vince McMahon loves trying to stuff his favorite guys down the fans' throats until they choke on them.

What he never seems to understand, though, is that if one performer is endlessly dominating the top spot in the company all year round, it's easy for Groundhog Day Syndrome to set in.

So when Cena tore his pectoral in 2007, those of us who had soured on his mega-push were given a much-needed reprieve. Finally, we could actually miss this dude just a little bit.

That whole "absence makes the heart grow fonder" thing worked wonders too, as evidenced by the wild ovation Cena received when he was revealed to be the surprise 30th entrant into the 2008 Royal Rumble. More importantly, he was then put into a string of title matches that he lost, before taking an interesting detour to becoming one half of the Tag Team Champions alongside Batista.

Cena would suffer another injury later that year, returning even quicker this time. And when he did, fans could stomach him becoming a World Champion again.
