9 Times John Cena Was The Worst WWE Babyface Ever
7. Egging The Undertaker
By 2018, John Cena had regressed to a WWE part-timer, showing up a few times a year to cut a few promos, play the hits in the ring, and head back off to Hollywood.
When he arrived in 2018, Cena was looking for his path to WrestleMania 34 and entered the Royal Rumble, but came up short. He then entered the Elimination Chamber and again fell short. From there, Cena took to the only other surefire match that would take place at WrestleMania other than a world title match: facing the Undertaker.
Cena called out 'Taker, challenging him for a 'Mania match that would be the Deadman’s first since his disastrous performance at WrestleMania 33 against Roman Reigns. But Undertaker met Cena’s challenge with silence, which only incensed the jorts-wearing superstar.
During his subsequent appearance, Cena became increasingly hostile toward Taker, calling him a coward for not answering him, saying he let down the fans, and finally resorting to that WWE trope of declaring that Undertaker clearly left his balls at home.
'Taker was essentially retired. He hadn’t showed up since the previous year’s 'Mania and hadn’t done anything to incite Cena. John simply failed at finding a path to WrestleMania and selfishly thought the only way he could compete there was to goad a then-53-year-old retired wrestler into action by insulting him. Because Cena wanted a spotlight. That’s a self-centered douche right there.
This eventually played out at WrestleMania 34, where Undertaker appeared and squashed Cena in less than three minutes, paying him back for all the trash talk.
