9 Times John Cena Was The Worst WWE Babyface Ever

6. Arguing With The Referee

During his storied WWE career, John Cena has had some excellent feuds with top superstars. One of his chief rivals has to be CM Punk.

The two had a WWE Championship match at Night of Champions 2012 where Punk, who had turned heel a couple of months earlier, defended against the perpetual challenger in Cena’s hometown of Boston. In an effort to put Punk away, Cena hoisted the champ onto the turnbuckle and delivered a German suplex with a bridge… only Cena didn’t get either shoulder off the mat. The referee counted to three, and everyone assumed a new champion had been crowned.

The ref finally grabbed the title away from Cena and awarded it to Punk, as a double pin meant the match ended in a draw. Cena, however, went into full whiner mode, getting in the ref’s face and questioning his call, complaining that his dad was in the audience, grumbling about the match ending in a draw (which is a legit ending to a match), and finally asking, “Can I get something?”

Cena probably still would have been making a federal case of the outcome today had Punk not blasted Cena with the title, putting an end to his complaining. Being on the losing end of a Dusty finish is never fun, but WWE’s Boy Scout jawing with the ref and raising the point that his father was in attendance – as if that should draw sympathy or change the outcome – was anything but in the aftermath of the match.
