9 Times WWE Promoted 'Freak-show' Matches

2. Floyd Mayweather Vs. Big Show

'Money' Mayweather's original 'freak show' match asked a whole new question of the boxing legend: how can you punch someone you can't reach?

Even the most ardent objector to non-wrestlers stepping into the squared-circle had to take an interest in this considerable mismatch. As Big Show and Floyd made their pre-fight press conference, the wrestler absolutely towered over his diminutive opponent. His fist alone was bigger than Mayweather's head.

It had nothing on the boxer's ego, however, and though he was supposed to be playing face, his incendiary, arrogant attitude was such that he couldn't help occupy the heel role. People wanted to see Mayweather get the paste squeezed out of him, swiftly defenestrating the usual David vs. Goliath narrative which should have garnered sympathy for the smaller man.

Obviously, the two couldn't be allowed to fight for real. Either Show would have held the hubristic hustler at arms' length like in a cartoon, or else suffer a mammoth beating from the minute Mayweather. To avoid a shambles, the spectacle was meticulously planned, with the interloper playing the cowardly heel to a tee. Against all expectations, the showdown was a success.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
