7. Tag Team Championship (2002)

No matter how many empty promises they make to The Revival or any other underappreciated tag team seeking an exit strategy, Vince McMahon simply places no stock in tag team wrestling whatsoever. What greater testament to this truism than the design of 2002's Tag Team Championships, one of about five different lineages of a set of straps dragged so much through the mud that they resemble pigs at Glastonbury Festival.

Aside from the kitsch Roman gladiator theme, it's the bronze colouring that distinguishes this set of straps as second-rate. Bronze, though a precious metal, is a cultural metonymy for being not quite precious enough in a sporting context, two steps below gold and silver. Taking home such a gong only speaks of disappointment, not achievement - something true of anyone who found themselves in the Raw tag division in the mid-2000s.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
