9 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (5 Jan - Review)

Ups...

9. Red Velvet & Jade Cargill vs. Skye Blue & Kiera Hogan

Jade Cargill
AEW

Kiera Hogan's exit from The Baddies and failed TBS Title challenge was rushed, as was Red Velvet's own estrangement from the group so soon after returning. This storyline needed more time on the stove. A more concerted build over several months, not weeks, would have served the characters better, delivering a bigger payoff - and building to a bigger title fight between Jade and Velvet.

That match is worth building, too. The duo have excellent chemistry and tend to overdeliver together.

Nonetheless, there was little wrong with the action served up in last night's tag team battle. Skye Blue and Hogan put up a valiant fight against the remains of the Baddies but were ultimately undone. Jade commanded Velvet get back on the same page as her towards the end, but Red bailed, breeding genuine fear when Hogan rolled Cargill up for a close two-count, almost breaking the streak. Seconds later, Kiera had succumbed to the Pump Kick.

Velvet backed up the ramp as Jade (flanked only by Leila Gray now) held the TBS Championship aloft.
