9 Ups & 1 Down From WWE NXT (Feb 12)

2. Daddy's Actually Home

Ciampa Cole
NXT

Far from being at odds with Adam Cole, Tomasso Ciampa's role in this title picture has felt more like he's been at odds with Tomasso Ciampa. Certainly, the version of himself that got so over in heel-dom that they didn't even need to bother with a landmark face-turn moment after his neck injury. He's been, quiet, considered, comedic, and none of its really clicked.

At the last possible opportunity though it looks like they've pulled it back. The backstage promo they produced where he began to unravel as he watched the footage of him handing his Championship and, by extension, his life over harked back to some of the very best character work he's done on this brand. Ciampa's boring as a good guy, and if NXT doesn't want to have him as an out and out villain then he at least needs to walk the line.

In the space of one promo and one staredown, there's now the inescapable feeling that if he can't reclaim his crown this weekend something's going to snap. That's the Tomasso Ciampa we want, the Tomasso Ciampa whose mindset puts you on edge, the Tomasso Ciampa whose motivations can make your teeth itch.
