9 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (23 August - Review)
8. A Fascinating Pair Of Sit-Down Interviews
For months now, fans have questioned why AEW has not effectively conveyed the grandeur of running Wembley Stadium, but because he's so fantastic at this, MJF managed it and raised a legitimate belly laugh at the same time. When asked by Renee Paquette, who incidentally was as busy as she was sensational all night long, how he was feeling ahead of All In, he said he was "all chubbed up", which is a turn of phrase that is at once delightful and puerile.
Across two separate, fascinating sit-down interviews, Renee showed footage to MJF and Adam Cole of the various miscommunications that have threatened their friendship. The contracting responses, thrillingly, yielded no answers to the hottest mystery plotted in years. MJF brushed off these moments of ambiguity by revealing that he was new to all of this friendship stuff. What might scan as suspicious behavior is simply inexperience.
Is MJF going to turn because he's a sociopath?
Cole meanwhile went apesh*t. When Renee showed him the footage of Cole, amongst other things, symbolically stabbing MJF in the back, he blew up, resentful of the fact that he nobody trusts him, and walked out of the interview.
Is Cole going to turn because he protested too much?
The most fascinating storyline related questions in AEW still linger following two excellent sit-downs, the seriousness of which were well overdue after one too many post-produced skits of diminishing returns.
