9 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jan 27)

7. Varsity Blondes' Fire Extinguished

Griff Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. showed great fire against MJF and Chris Jericho, which could have been a squash, but was elevated by the Varsity Blondes stepping up and giving their opponents a real fight.

MJF got blasted when he tried to run Garrison down on the microphone. Still smarting from getting flattened by Maxwell last year, Griff was so aggressive that he forced MJF out of the ring, flustered. When he got back in, 'The Salt of the Earth' tagged Jericho straight away. The Blondes had forced him to think again.

Big flurries of offense from Garrison and Brian Pillman Jr. kept the Inner Circle men on the backfoot for longer than expected. The heat was there, the pace was great, and Jericho trolled the world with his finish, nailing a picture-perfect Lionsault before making the pin with a huge grin on his face, looking right down the lens. An enjoyable moment after almost breaking his neck on the last show.

Post-match squabbling led to MJF catching up with Sammy Guevara later in the night. "Are you sure you want to play it this way?", asked MJF, but 'The Spanish God' isn't playing at all. Their tension continues.
