9 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Apr 22)

2. Empty Pockets

Orange Cassidy Jimmy Havoc
AEW

Divisive he may be, but this columnist enjoys Orange Cassidy as an over-as-f*ck entertainer who is more than capable of levelling up in matches like his fabulous Revolution throwdown with PAC, all without violating the accepted psychology of professional wrestling to the degree his biggest detractors would have you believe.

Unfortunately, last night's match with Jimmy Havoc just wasn't it.

'Freshly Squeezed' doesn't work so well without a crowd. Much of his act depends on a building full of people roaring for his shtick, spots, and athletic explosions. That obviously can't happen in an empty building, so much like last week's Chuck Taylor vs. Kip Sabian match (which was laced with comedy itself), this fell flat.

Cassidy winning was ultimately the right decision as Havoc isn't somebody who's ever going to be pushed beyond the midcard here. The work was largely fine, too, with Jimmy torturing the babyface throughout, building sympathy for the comebacks, but some things just aren't made for this environment - this is one of them.
