9 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (5 Jan)
4. The Finals Are Set
Havok and Nevaeh will meet Kiera Hogan and Tasha Steelz at Hard To Kill to crown the new Knockouts Tag Team Champions.
The former secured their place against 'The Hottest Flame' and 'The Boricua Badass' by knocking Jordynne Grace and Jazz off their perch. There were one or two moments of sloppiness from Jazz, but aside from that, this was a decent match. Havok's impactful sitout powerbomb was a highlight, while the Tombstone Piledriver she used to pin Jazz was as brutal as ever. She may have come out of retirement for the tournament, but the former NWA World Women's Champion proved to have plenty left in the tank throughout.
While Jazz and Grace will now collide at Genesis in a dream match for 'Thicc Mama Pump', the bigger picture here is that the finals of this tournament are exactly the way they should be. Realistically, the finals could only logically consist of a combination of Havok and Nevaeh, Hogan and Steelz, and Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie. Those were the three main teams the Knockouts tag division was centred around over the summer, prior to the announcement of the titles returning.
That we've actually got a bit of a story coming into the crowning of the new champions means the finals are even more enticing than they would have been without one. Putting an iconic name like Jazz in the finals was an easy step for Impact Wrestling. That they've opted against it shows they want to put effort into the Knockouts Tag Team Championships picture this time around.
