9 Ups & 4 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling & NJPW Multiverse United (Review)

2. A Hotbed For Tag Team Wrestling

Motor City Machine Guns
IMPACT Wrestling

The conventional pro wrestling fan will tell you that AEW is the place to go for breathtaking tag team wrestling and while that's routinely true, IMPACT Wrestling should not be neglected from this conversation. An illustrious recital of doubles matches that already featured America's Most Wanted, Triple X, and the Motor City Machine Guns had its latest chapter written here.

Ace Austin and Chris Bey, TMDK, and Aussie Open joined the Guns for a match that can be accurately defined as fun. A fun, dazzling, pulse-pounding match. For every Motor City Machine Guns dive, there was a Mark Davis or a Bad Dude Tito standing aside to Lariat the p*ss out of folk in a sickening, elegant presentation.

Aussie Open's strengths were accentuated throughout, given the most time to work the crowd, get their schtick in, and come across as legitimately plausible IMPACT champions. They weren't going to win on this occasion - the nature of the event and proximity of Rebellion restricted the titles to change hands - but Aussie Open are genuine contenders.

Ace Austin and Chris Bey would retain the straps instead, having forged a prodigious partnership. Their perfectionist 1, 2, Finesse two-man finish came as part of a bombastic finishing stretch so closely affiliated with the duo's matches. They are the right champions for now - but IMPACT must now begin lining up earnest storylines for them to emphasise that exact point.
