9 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Money In The Bank 2021

4. A Cena-Esque Reaction

Trust us, when we say Drew McIntyre received a reaction like John Cena or Roman Reigns on Sunday, it’s not a compliment.

McIntyre basically carried Raw as WWE Champion for much of 2020, defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36 and holding it for all but one month until the following February. He was for the most part a solid champ and great ambassador for the program.

However, his character has plummeted in recent months, descending into a guy who tells weird stories, laments getting screwed out of the title, and basically has become everything he wasn’t for the previous year. This resulted in Drew getting a mixed reaction on the level that Cena or Reigns got for the bulk of their careers – and that’s not a good thing.

The reaction is an indictment of how bad WWE’s writing has been, that they’ve managed to screw up McIntyre and dug him into a hole. Here’s hoping he can pull himself out, because we can’t count on the booking to do that.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
