9 Ups And 8 Downs From WWE Money In The Bank 2020

7. Staying The Course

Now maybe this is a deliberate decision by WWE, having New Day once again carry the SmackDown Tag Team Championship and then retain them Sunday, but it feels like a safe move when they could have tried something different.

With a fatal four-way tag bout, you could easily have had new champs without having Big E or Kofi Kingston get pinned (though New Day certainly could sustain a loss). It was an opportunity to give someone like Lucha House Party a run with the titles and a bit of a spotlight for the time being rather than staying the course with New Day.

It’s possible WWE has decided that during this empty arena era, it’s easier to keep titles on proven acts rather than forcing new champs to have to sink or swim in a difficult environment. But still, it would have been fun to see Lucha House Party get a taste of tag gold and maybe even get a couple title defenses under them.

If you ever were going to try something unorthodox, why not now?
