9 Wrestlers Who Could Have Been WWE Champion In The 1990s

In the history of the Fed, no one benefitted so much and so immediately from a heel turn more than Owen Hart. With the opening match at WrestleMania X against his brother Bret, Owen established himself as a cowardly, sneaky, and, most-importantly, credible opponent for the WWF Championship.

While Bret ultimately won the title at the aforementioned WrestleMania against Yokozuna, Owen still had a win on the Hitman earlier in the evening. That set up a title program that lasted throughout the summer, a program which resulted in Bret's former partner Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart turning on Bret, and Own winning the 1994 King of the Ring tournament.

Ultimately, Owen was harmed too much in 1994 by his house show losses to Bret to be taken seriously as a legitimate contender to the Championship. One only knows how he could have fared as a Champion against the likes of Bret, Diesel, or Shawn Michaels, or even how he, as a champion, would have fared against other opponents throughout the '90s.

Do you know who should have won the WWE Championship in the '90s? Let us know in the comments!
