9 Wrestlers Who Won Titles On Their Debuts

6. Gail Kim (Women's Championship)

Future Impact Wrestling Knockouts supremo Gail Kim twice waved her middle finger in the direction of WWE's officials at the end of two disappointing runs with the company, each muddied by a string of broken promises. In the first instance, Kim was caught on the hop when she was released for 'cost cutting' measure having been promised a renewed focus on the women's division. When similar vows failed to bear fruit during her second spell, Kim called it quits, and pledged never to return.

Unlike most wrestlers, the Canadian has actually stuck to her guns in the nine years since her WWE embargo began - even throughout the temptation of a non-phony 'Women's Revolution' (though it's just as likely the company haven't made overtures to their grudge-holding ex-employee).

It's really a dismal shame, such is the wealth of experience and legitimacy Kim could have lended the actual evolution. Things started so promisingly too. After being recommended to the company by fellow worker Molly Holly, Kim's showreel immediately impressed WWE officials of particular predilections. After weeks of Matrix-inspired vignettes, the rookie's debut could hardly have went more swimmingly, as she entered - and won - a battle royal to claim the injured Jazz's Women's Championship. Where did things go wrong?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
