It probably came as no surprise to Carly Colon, a man born into relative wrestling royalty, that he was crowned a champion on his first televised WWE match.
Beaming in Boston after a successful United States Championship defence over Booker T at No Mercy, John Cena was in his element during a promo on an episode of SmackDown in October 2004. But just as he was getting the crowd to eat out the palm of his hands, he suddenly found an apple pit spat in his face, courtesy of a Caribbean intruder.
Vignettes had aired for weeks heralding the arrival of Carlito, son of the great Carlos Colon, and now here he was - and he wanted Cena's US strap. By the end of the night, amazingly, he had it, as a referee distraction allowed him to catch Big John by the chain and roll him up. Just like that, he was an established mid-card heel. Cena didn't like those apples.
