According to Fightful Select, Adam Cole was due to meet with Vince McMahon at last night's SmackDown taping.

This report says that the one-time NXT Champion was scheduled to be at Tampa's Amalie Arena for a "high level" meeting with McMahon to discuss his future.

Earlier this week saw the news that Cole's WWE contract actually expired last month, with him having penned a one-month extension that will get him through until the end of August. After that, as it stands, the former Undisputed Era leader will become a free agent.

Given how this would be the natural expiry of Cole's contract, that means that there would be no non-compete clause in place - and so, he could turn up in any other wrestling promotion on the day his current WWE extension expires.

Since that initial story broke, we've heard plentiful rumblings that Cole has yet to formally be offered a new WWE contract, while there is obviously plentiful speculation of him soon becoming #AllElite.

Regardless of his current contract issues, Adam Cole still has a hugely positive relationship with top NXT officials and he continues to carry himself in a professional manner. Currently, Cole is set to once more face Kyle O'Reilly at NXT TakeOver 36 on 22 August. After that, right now, all bets are off.
