AEW Double Or Nothing 2021: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True

Unnecessary swerves, shock title changes and flat surprises at AEW's Double Or Nothing.

Some staunch defenders of All Elite Wrestling will see the title of this piece and start furiously typing complaints about the mere thought that Tony Khan's company could produce a nightmare pay-per-view. In fairness, AEW tends to know what its audience wants, and Khan delivers perhaps 90% of the time.

The weak conclusion to Revolution's 'Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch' between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega should act as a cruel reminder of everything that can go wrong on the night though. That was awful, and it's the one lasting image of an otherwise solid enough show.

What if it happens again? No, not the sparklers (AEW will steer clear of those for a while), but the nightmare fuel - what if Double Or Nothing 2021 turns out to be a night people look back on with shaking heads and tuts rather than nodding ones and praise?

Positivity has no place here. Straight up, this is everything that could go wrong come Sunday night. Unwanted title changes, "surprises" that fall totally flat and unnecessary swerves that Vince Russo would be proud of are law.

They wouldn't, would they...?

10. Miro Goes Back To Square One

Nightmare: That Miro drops his newly-won TNT Title to big Lance Archer and ends up mired back in the midcard glut. WWE loyalists will then be able to point and laugh at the notion that AEW would book the ex-Rusev better than Vince McMahon's league.

Chances Of Happening: Very slim, but title changes are always possible.

Someone on the booking staff might point out the Archer should be protected too. AEW don't tend to shy away from clean decisions in major matches, but the odd screwy finish is rarely regarded as a disaster. It would, however, be a nightmare for Miro if the company whipped that belt away from him after just a few weeks.

He'd plummet right back down the card, and might land next to Kip Sabian again. Remember that? It was a horrendous way to debut the man, and it'd be a real step backwards if he was asked to shed his prize already.
