AEW Double Or Nothing 2024: 10 Things That Must Happen

The end of Bryan Danielson and a forgotten WWE issue resurfacing in AEW.

Is this the least-special feeling Double Or Nothing yet? That's a valid question; AEW will celebrate its five year anniversary this weekend in Las Vegas, but the company's original pay-per-view doesn't carry the same weight it did at launch. In 2019, DoN was one of only five major events, and Tony Khan kept the schedule lighter until exploding in 2023.

Last year, All Elite put on eight PPVs. In 2024, that number will increase to nine, so yes - some of that shine has been scuffed recently. Of course, the promotion's hardcore fanbase knows they'll still see some world class pro wrestling when they tune in on Sunday. That comes with the territory in AEW.

Title changes are expected, and buckets of blood will be served in several gimmick matches. That's before one even includes Jon Moxley's IWGP Title eliminator! Sunday is a big night for Malakai Black too, because it's his chance to prove he belongs on top of the card against an industry legend.

Here's everything, including a teased career crash landing for Bryan Danielson and an old WWE issue resurfacing, that must happen in Vegas.

10. Hook Beats Chris Jericho

Technically, Hook vs. Chris Jericho hasn't even been confirmed at time of writing. This piece was penned before Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, and that's where AEW will thrash out who challenges for the FTW Title. Let's be honest here: It's Taz's kid. Bryan Keith or Katsuyori Shibata would be swerves.

Not welcome ones either.

An awful lot of AEW hardcores just want less Jericho, at least for a while. His current work is a pale shadow of yesteryear, and many fans are flat out sick of him now. It'd be wise for Tony Khan to read the room (something the All Elite boss admittedly isn't great at), and have Hook regain the FTW strap at DoN.

Then, Jericho can slip into the tag division alongside new protege Big Bill, or maybe even take a backseat during Bill's wrecking ball singles push. The man himself might not want to admit it, but Jericho does need a breather from AEW's product. He's become a dark cloud for many.
