AEW Dynamite Beats Usual Thanksgiving Ratings Slump, Holds Up Well
Last week's AEW Dynamite was up in 18-49 viewers, beating the annual Thanksgiving eve slump.
Last week's episode of AEW Dynamite held up well, overcoming the show's usual Thanksgiving eve decline by posting an increase in P18-49 viewership.
As originally reported by Wrestlenomics, an average of 880,000 P2+ viewers watched the 23 November Dynamite across its two hours on TBS. Included in this figure were around 421,000 aged between 18 and 49. This made for a P18-49 rating of 0.32, enough for the show to finish sixth on the night amongst original cable telecasts.
On the day, Dynamite was outdone only by an early FIFA World Cup match on FOX and NBA coverage on ESPN.
The previous week saw Dynamite hit a five-month low in its usual Wednesday night timeslot. Last week, the show was up 8% in total viewership and 13% in P18-49.
Dynamite's numbers typically struggle on the night before Thanksgiving. The P18-49 declines for the past three years look like this:-
2019: 505,000 to 337,000 (-33%)
2020: 477,000 to 338,000 (-29%)
2021: 480,000 to 408,000 (-15%)
Having reversed this trend, AEW officials would be right to see the positives in last week's Dynamite ratings. The show was largely marketed around Tomohiro Ishii vs. Chris Jericho and The Elite and Death Triangle's latest trios match.
