AEW Dynasty 2024: 10 Things That Must Happen
3. Swerve Strickland Becomes Champ
History is ready to be made.
Swerve Strickland has been very candid about hoping to become the first black AEW World Champion. That aside, it's also true he's been one of the standout performers for the company generally. Swerve started to gain momentum last year, then went on to work some of the absolute best matches in All Elite's Continental Classic round robin.
Then, there's Samoa Joe. He's a safe pair of hands as World Champ, but he isn't the future of this company. Someone like Strickland is. A classy, intelligent worker like Joe knows it's only a matter of time before he does the honours for somebody. When that time comes (and it should come at Dynasty), he'll go above and beyond to make them look like a king.
There's a case to be made for waiting to crown Swerve until he's main eventing one of AEW's top pay-per-views. For this fan, Dynasty is the right place to do it whether Strickland vs. Joe gets top billing or not. A lot of people just want to see Swerve clutching that championship with a proud smile.
