AEW's Tony Khan Cites "Unresolved Anger" For Issues Between CM Punk & 'Hangman' Adam Page
Issues have been brewing for quite some time between two of AEW’s biggest stars.
Issues between CM Punk and 'Hangman' Adam Page have been brewing for quite some time.
Rewind to this past May’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view, Punk defeated Hangman to become AEW World Champion. While fans thought the feud was nothing but a case of hot promo after hot promo building up to what ended up being a classic title bout, it appears as if some of what was said hit close to him for Chicago’s favorite son.
Fast forward to last week's episode of AEW Dynamite, the Second City Saint called Page out to the ring for a World Title rematch. After Hangman didn't appear, Punk labelled the Cowboy's actions (or lack thereof) as "coward s**t".
AEW President Tony Khan recently appeared on Busted Open Radio to discuss the issues between two of the company’s biggest stars and whether the bad blood is something that’s more than meets the eye.
"It's unresolved anger, I think, from the World Title match at Double or Nothing and we had not really tied up all those issues. CM Punk made one appearance to wrestle after Double or Nothing and it was immediately after that he got injured and was forced to step away. There was clearly some stuff that never got resolved at Double or Nothing. Then, immediately, jumped into somebody who has challenged him, in not a type of match we've ever had in AEW before. We've had interim championships established, but we've never had an Interim World Champion or an Undisputed World Championship match like this.”
According to many reports, Punk’s callout of Page last week wasn’t in the script, which stirred up the rumor mill on there being off-screen issues between the current and former AEW World Champions.
The Straight-Edge Superstar is set to face Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley on tonight’s episode of Dynamite in an title unification bout.
