Report: CM Punk Went Into Business For Himself On AEW Dynamite

No, AEW is not building towards CM Punk vs. Hangman Page II at All Out.

CM Punk's barbs at 'Hangman' Adam Page on last night's AEW Dynamite came from CM Punk and CM Punk alone.

Reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that when Punk called Page out for a World Championship rematch at the top of Dynamite, it wasn't planned. Nobody knew that Punk was going to bring 'Hangman' up - and the AEW Champion was only supposed to talk up his impending unification match with Jon Moxley.

This happened in the end. Moxley interrupted the segment before two pull-apart brawls between the two broke out, leading to AEW booking their contest for next week's Dynamite.

Nonetheless, Page's name being mentioned led to speculation that he might be inserted into the feud, or challenge Punk at All Out 2022 (4 September). This isn't happening. On WOR, Bryan Alvarez stated explicitly that Punk calling Page out had nothing to do with the pay-per-view. Punk went off-script - and the situation shouldn't be read into beyond that.

The question of what AEW will do with Punk, Moxley, and their respective World Championship belts at All Out remains, though the situation will likely be clearer after next week's match.
