AJ Styles has had some big-name opponents for WrestleMania -- Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Edge, Shane McMahon -- but the Phenomenal One has apparently always had his sights set high for matches at the biggest show of the year.

While he's spoken before about wanting to compete against Shawn Michaels at Mania, Styles recently told Fightful Select that he's pitched another legendary figure to face at the Showcase of the Immortals:

"Well, the last person I tried was Triple H. I didn’t get him. I don’t know who the next guy is or if there will be another one. Now we’ve got the younger talent coming up. Maybe I’m the match that they would like to have. I would like to have some good ones before I retire. Who knows? I don’t know who’s going to be next. None of us do. We’ll just have to see what happens."

Of course, Triple H retired from in-ring action at WrestleMania 38 after suffering from heart problems, so that dream match is off the table.

Since joining WWE, Styles has lost to Jericho at WrestleMania 32, defeated Shane at WM 33, beat Shinsuke Nakamura at Mania 34, toppled Randy Orton at WrestleMania 35, lost to Undertaker at Mania 36, won the Raw Tag Team Championship with Omos at WM 37, and fell to Edge this year at Mania 38.
