ANOTHER WWE Wrestler's Contract Set To Expire In Days
Superstar involved in current major angle has not yet re-signed with company.
In what is becoming a bit of a recurring theme, there is yet another WWE superstar featured prominently on television whose contract is set to expire in a matter of days.
This time, it's Chad Gable whose WWE deal will end next week, unless he re-signs before then. Fightful Select reports that Gable's contract will expire late next week, making him the latest prominent superstar to count down the days until be becomes a free agent.
Fightful indicates that as of its report Thursday, no new deal had been reached -- though WWE is interested in re-signing him -- with the current contract slated to end June 7. If Gable reaches free agency, he is likely to receive interest from across the wrestling world, according to Fightful. The outlet reported that they have heard talent in various promotions will make a strong push for Gable should be become available.
There are even MMA companies who told Fightful they would be interested in Gable if they have the chance.
Recently, Gable has been heavily featured on Raw as the leader of Alpha Academy and is involved in the midst of a heel turn and dressing down of his stablemates while feuding with Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn. The 11-year WWE veteran has held tag gold on three separate occasions with three different partners: Jason Jordan, Robert Roode and Otis. He has never held singles gold in the company.
What might be most surprising is that a WWE wrestler involved in a major angle being just days or weeks away from their contract expired is not an uncommon occurrence these days. Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins got down to the wire recently before re-signing, and Becky Lynch's deal is actually set to end this week unless she reaches an agreement.
As with Lynch, should Gable's contract expire without him re-signing, he would be eligible to appear for another promotion immediately, as there is no non-compete clause in that situation.
