Are WWE Pulling The Plug On WrestleMania 34's Battle Royal?

Andre The Giant's memorial match may be about to go female...

Bryan Alvarez reported via The Wrestling Observer Live that WWE may be about to cancel their annual Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal and replace it with a women's match at WrestleMania 34.

Alvarez also claimed there's a chance WWE will shift gears and present a memorial match dedicated to either Mae Young or The Fabulous Moolah. Last August, the company ran a female tournament in honour of Mae (the Mae Young Classic), and there's a sustained interest in pushing women's wrestling to the forefront of programming in 2018.

If true, WWE's timing would have to be considered odd. A HBO special looking at the life, legacy and impact of Andre The Giant is scheduled for release on 10 April this year. That's just two nights after 'Mania 34, so it'd be rather weird for WWE to scrap a match paying tribute to someone so topical.

The Battle Royal has skipped between the main WrestleMania card and the pre-show over the past four years, but it's still considered a sweet sentiment from WWE towards one of their most beloved stars.

Will Mojo Rawley really be the final ever Andre The Giant Memorial winner?
