Michael Cole is a busy man. As well as serving as Raw's lead announcer, Cole produces and helps WWE's other announcers hone their skills while performing a number of other off-camera duties. Cole was most recently flown to England to commentate during the WWE UK Title Tournament, before heading back across the Atlantic for Raw the following evening.

PWInsider are today reporting that Cole is becoming more and more interested in leaving his commentary position for a permanent role behind the scenes. Cole debuted as a backstage interviewer in 1997, and has been an on-screen presence ever since. There's no word on when he might transition to a new role, but the rumours are reportedly building steam backstage.

Cole has been part of Raw's announce team since 2008. His heavily-produced commentary style has drawn many critics over the years, but he remains one of Vince McMahon's most trusted employees. From calling huge matches to attempting to step in the ring himself, Cole has occupied a number of roles over the years, and may be looking to diversify even more.

Cole will join Jerry Lawler and Corey Graves in this year's Royal Rumble commentary team, and will leave big shoes to fill should he depart from television.
