Backstage Update On Big Change To AEW Revolution 2022 Match
This announced match for AEW Revolution 2022 underwent a significant change...
Sting, Darby Allin, and Sammy Guevara will team to face Andrade Hardy Family Office's Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy, and Isiah Kassidy at AEW Revolution 2022 this weekend (6 March), but this isn't what AEW originally had planned for the bout.
Per Fightful Select, this match was originally supposed to be a straight-up tag with Sting and Allin facing Hardy and Andrade. Kassidy and Guevara weren't going to be involved initially.
There is currently no word on why the TNT Champion and the Private Party member were added to the fray. Guevara has other concerns elsewhere on the pay-per-view, which will host another Face of the Revolution ladder match to determine the next contender for his TNT strap. Keith Lee, Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks, and Orange Cassidy have all qualified for that so far, with one more to be confirmed.
Sting and Allin have been feuding with AHFO for several months now. The feud was eventually expanded to include Guevara, who defeated Andrade in a TNT Championship defence on last week's episode of Rampage.
That AEW have spent the past few weeks teasing an AHFO split suggests this Revolution match may have storyline implications beyond faces vs. heels.
