Backstage Update On Cesaro's WWE Contract Status & Future
New details on Cesaro, whose WWE contract was reportedly set to expire after WrestleMania 37...
It looks like Cesaro will be sticking with WWE for the foreseeable future.
Wrestling Inc. reported on Sunday (31 January) that the Swiss Superman's contract with the promotion expired soon after WrestleMania 37, though there was no word on whether or not a new deal was in the works.
Dave Meltzer writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Cesaro has either signed or verbally agreed to a new WWE contract, having done so "a few weeks ago." Details on how long that deal would be for haven't been disclosed, though the promotion has been handing out three-year extensions lately.
Interestingly, Meltzer notes that Daniel Bryan had originally suggested Cesaro go on the star-making run in the recent SmackDown gauntlet match, only for Shinsuke Nakamura to replace the Swiss Superman as his former tag partner hadn't yet signed a new deal. It is also noted that there was never intended to be much follow up on the gauntlet run, hence why Nakamura has fallen back down to the midcard, only as a babyface.
Now 40 years old, Cesaro has been under WWE contract since 2011, scoring multiple Tag Team Title reigns and one with the United States Championship during his run.
