Big E Teases HUGE Title Match With Returning WWE Legend
7 years later, Big E may finally get his promised Intercontinental Title match...
Big E teased a potential Intercontinental Title match with Christian last night.
Here's what the New Day man posted to Twitter:-
An interesting tweet, as E was booked to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Christian on an episode of Main Event back in 2014. This ended up not happening as a result of the concussion issues that led to Christian's eventual retirement.
Christian returned to the ring in the 2021 men's Royal Rumble. Though he technically "wrestled" Randy Orton on Raw last year, it was a highly-controlled squash match in which 'Captain Charisma' was clearly being protected, and did it little to inspire hope that he might work a proper match again. This changed in the Rumble, when Christian was bumping, selling, and running through signature spots, looking great in the process.
Having been cleared to return to the ring last week, Christian is expected to work a part-time schedule going forward. There's currently no word on when his next televised appearance will be.
E has been Intercontinental Champion since the 25 December episode of SmackDown, taking the belt from Sami Zayn. He has since mounted three successful defences against Apollo Crews.
