Big E has said he wants to make a "smart decision" on his professional wrestling future as his WWE absence nears the two-year mark.

Speaking with TMZ, E confirmed that he doesn't have a timetable when it comes to a potential in-ring return.

Said the former WWE Champion:

"I don't have a timeline, unfortunately, but thank you for asking... I just want to make a smart decision," he added. "I didn't start wrestling to end up in a wheelchair, so I just want to make sure I'm just making the best decision for myself."

E hasn't wrestled for WWE since March 2022, when he was dropped on his head after taking a belly-to-belly overhead suplex outside the ring. It was later revealed that he had broken his neck, fracturing his C1 and C6 vertebrae, mercifully escaping ligament or spinal cord injury. Nonetheless, the New Day man's in-ring future was immediately thrown into the balance.

In August 2023, E revealed that doctors had advised him to never compete again, stating:

"They said like, 'Hey, I would not wrestle again if I were you.' So, for me, at 37, these are things that I think about. ... I started this job at 23 years old, and probably had a bit of a death wish and was okay dying in the ring ... I now, at 37, would like to not die in the ring; I would like to do other things with my life."
