BOMBSHELL: AEW's Tony Khan Tried To BUY WWE In 2023 (WWE News)
Court documents reveal that AEW boss Tony Khan tried to buy WWE a few years ago.
Brandon Thurston has revealed via POST Wrestling that court documents stemming from a shareholder lawsuit/dispute reveal none other than AEW boss Tony Khan was firmly in the running to buy WWE back in 2023. Endeavor ultimately won the race to purchase the organisation in September that year, which led to the formation of TKO.
However, a recently unredacted complaint filed in the Delaware Chancery Court in November '23 has resurfaced. In it, the 4 main bidders to buy WWE outright were named. One of them was a company called Base 10, which was backed by Khan. In other words, TK put his name in the frame to become owner of his own competition.
Imagine the scenes had his plan come to fruition.
Next to Endeavor and Base 10 were F1 parent company Liberty Media and a private equity firm called KKR. That trio made headlines at the time, but Base 10 and Khan's involvement in the whole thing was only rumoured back in 2023. Any speculation from wrestling fans/wrestling media about Tony potentially buying WWE was exactly that: Speculation.
Now, it's clear that he was officially in the running all along.
Tony isn't specifically mentioned by name in the resurfacing report, but it does state the following: "Base 10 is the owner of All Elite Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion that plainly would enjoy significant synergies with WWE".
The language there is fascinating, and the "owner of All Elite Wrestling" bit gives the game away on exactly who's involved. "Plainly would enjoy significant synergies with WWE" is also likely an understatement - Khan would've been like a kid in a candy store had be been able to pull of a purchase there.
Fascinating.
