Bray Wyatt: What Went Wrong?

Matt Hardy had saved more than just his own career when he created a subversive pro wrestling Universe in TNA. His brother Jeff gained a revived purpose, and his various special edition Impact broadcasts found work for The Rock N Roll Express, The Hurricane and others. Three of those five are back on WWE's books in 2019, proving the very real powers of the 'Lake Of Reincarnation' at the bottom of his weird and wonderful garden. Bray Wyatt's circle of suck was even immune to that.

Hardy chucked him in the drink at the climax of their Raw 'Ultimate Deltion' as the company took a last punt on the man that was the top star precisely 12 months earlier. Wyatt had been kicked into touch by the creative team before, but never literally kicked into a river in order to facilitate a fresh start. Said start came during the WrestleMania 34 pre-show as Bray's Battle Royal return helped steer Matt to victory.

'The Deleters Of Worlds' rapidly rose up the flimsiest tag division in years, winning the brand's belts in a lame tribute act to The Hardys' own return the prior year. It was familiar f*ckawful ground for the character. He'd long passed the point of being an Undertaker parody - his backwood bullsh*t was closer to Godwinn than godlike. The Phineas to Matt's Henry saw out the remainder of their run before the latter eased to retirement, and like one of his own former "Family" members, he simply disappeared off the screen with nary a whisper.

A "What Went Wrong" feature perhaps shouldn't come with a happy ending anyway, but even the most headstrong optimist would struggle to find one for the former WWE Champion. He may yet reappear out of the dark for the first time in 2019 at the conclusion of the Elimination Chamber, but would anybody even care anymore? That's (currently) the worst thing about Bray Wyatt. He went from being the company's worst ever modern creation to being it's saddest. That's why this piece has no happy ending - if there's a light at the end of this tunnel, it's only a flickering candle in a lantern, and he'll yet again probably just blow it out.

Follow your own advice Bray. Cut, and "run".
