Bron Breakker beat back a challenge from Von Wagner on Tuesday's NXT, successfully defending his NXT Championship against one of the bigger, more physical opponents he's faced to date.

NXT doesn't exactly have an army of monsters for a champ to conquer, and Wagner is probably the closest thing to that type, so this was as big a clash as you were going to see. Wagner's power might have equalled Breakker's, but Bron's freakish athleticism carried him over the line as he put Von down with a spear.

Later in the show, Apollo Crews defeated JD McDonagh in a battle that the announcers put over as a de facto #1 contender's match given JD's history with Breakker and Crews' stated purpose for being back in NXT. Indeed, Bron came out afterwards to hold his title aloft and acknowledge Apollo.

Noting explicitly was stated, but considering that the just-announced Iron Survivor Challenge will determine a #1 contender at DEADL1NE on December 10, it's fair to consider that Crews could be Breakker's challenger for the upcoming PLE in three-plus weeks.

If that match becomes official, Apollo would be yet another athletically gifted challenger for Bron. During his seven-month reign, Breakker has defeated Joe Gacy, Cameron Grimes, Tyler Bate, McDonagh, and now Wagner.
