Bryan Danielson "Afraid Of Fan Expectations" With AEW Dream Match
This AEW dream match might never happen, but Bryan Danielson remains hopeful.
Bryan Danielson loves the thought of wrestling old rival Nigel McGuinness again someday, but admits he's "afraid of fan expectations" should it ever happen. That's up in the air too - McGuinness has expressed a wish to work in-ring again, but has been similarly coy about matching his old standards.
Danielson told 'Casual Conversations With The Classic' that both he and McGuinness are a lot older than they were when working scorchers in ROH many moons ago. The AEW star likened another match now to seeing Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat pull on some boots and try to meet expectations on their old NWA/WCW classics.
Nigel regularly needles Bryan on commentary in AEW, which has led some fans to believe the pair are working towards an end goal inside the ring. That'd be lovely, especially for those who remember the original Ring Of Honor days, but Danielson knows some would come away disappointed.
He called the old bouts "very physical matches", and times have changed for both since. Still, that doesn't mean it's impossible to imagine Bryan and Nigel locking horns in some sort of scenario someday. A tag-team effort, perhaps?
