Former WWE wrestler and UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez has been denied bail after being arrested for attempted murder last week.

On Monday, judge Shelyna Brown decreed at Santa Clara County Superior Court that the "extreme recklessness to human life" demonstrated by Velasquez during the shooting that led to him being taken in in the first place made it too risky to release him on bail.

Judge Brown commented (h/t Figure Four Online/Wrestling Observer):-

"It is clear to this court that there is clear and convincing evidence that there is a substantial likelihood that release would result in great bodily injury, not just to the named complaining witnesses in this case but to Santa Clara residents at large. This case involves allegations of extreme recklessness to human life."

Arrested in San Jose, California on 28 February, Velasquez is alleged to have been involved in the chase of a man charged with attempting to molest a four-year-old relative of Cain's, then repeatedly shooting at his target's truck with a handgun. Paul Bender, the stepfather of intended target Harry Eugene Goularte, was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries as a result.

Velasquez, 39, will appear in court again on 12 April. He cannot apply for bail again unless the existing charges are dropped or new ones are added.
